Persuading Congress

Imagine that Congress is trying to balance the budget and cutting spending for many programs. My job is to create a persuasive presentation that persuades members of Congress to either support or not support continued funding for United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS). .  .

There are many programs that the United States uses to help benefit our country. They all provide different services that help us to thrive as a nation. One of which is Homeland Security and we should continue to support it.

Homeland security first came about during the 9/11 attacks. The attacks left our country in confusion and fear of what to do next. So, the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was created on November 25, 2002 as a response.

This program benefits and helps to defend every citizen in America against terrorist attacks. On the annual budget, this program requires $55.1 billion in taxes.  This program helps to take up 19.7% of the total federal budget.

It has created jobs for over 200,000 federal employees making it the second largest cabinet department. This has increased the amount of people who are willing to get their degree in homeland security. With all those participants, it will continue to help grow our country’s defense.

Many programs help to grow our economy and society. However, we must continue to fund this program so that our country can continue to be protected against the threats from the inside. Jobs will also continue to grow in this department if we continue funding it.
